Our roof conversions are vehicle specific and at the moment we’re just servicing the Land Rover Defender 110. We expect to release a roof conversion for the LandCruiser Troop Carrier in mid-2022, so please contact us to place a pre-order or register your interest for a customised design.
-
Apart from the headlining, our Land Rover Defender 110 roof conversion is 100% reversible, which means you can restore your vehicle to its original state if you wish to later down the track. Our LandCruiser Troop Carrier roof conversion will not be reversible as our design replaces the entire roof.

All our products are proudly designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia, for Australian conditions. Each Headspace Camper is built-to-order and handcrafted in Brisbane, Queensland.
-
We offer a 4-year structural warranty and a 2-year moving parts warranty on all our roof conversions.
-
Our roof conversions are fully engineered and meet Australian Design Rule (ADR) requirements.
-
Our roof conversions adhere to the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification. Once installed and signed-off by one of our third party engineers for LH2 (Light Vehicle Conversion), your vehicle can legally be driven in all states and territories across Australia.
You may need to inform your vehicle insurer of the modification to your vehicle in order to determine whether or not it affects your insurance policy.

Setting up is as easy as releasing the two stainless steel catches, giving the roof a push and allowing the gas struts to work their magic. You can be climbing into bed within a few seconds of arriving at camp, and packing down is equally as effortless.

We provide installation at our workshop in North Brisbane, Queensland and we’re happy to work with you to create a tailored set up both inside and outside your vehicle. We typically request that all vehicles are as empty and tidy as possible prior to being dropped off at our workshop to avoid being damaged. We understand that some vehicles already have a fit-out and can therefore assist in rewiring various accessories based on an hourly charge-out rate.
We’re yet to create a Fit It Yourself (FIY) installation guide for our Land Rover Defender 110 roof conversion, but you should be able to do it yourself if you’re handy on the tools and have access to either a forklift or a few helping hands! It would involve removing the roof of your Defender, placing the roof conversion onto the vehicle and bolting the roof back on with some wiring modifications to your interior lights. Glue is required between the lower frame of the roof conversion and the Defender as well as around the perimeter of the roof where it sits on top of the upper frame. Three out of the four pieces of headlining also require trimming in order to be reinstalled. We suggest allowing two full days to complete the installation, providing you have adequate tools and a lifting device. If you choose to proceed with the FIY option, we’ll need to find an engineer in your state to sign off on the LH2 code upon completion. This costs our Queensland customers an additional $550.00 (for LH1 and LH2) if they choose to use our engineer.
-
Both our Land Rover Defender 110 and our LandCruiser Troop Carrier roof conversions are compatible with all gutter-mount roof racks.
-
Our Land Rover Defender 110 roof conversion adds 138mm to the overall height of the vehicle, which is far less than what’s available in the market today.
-
Upon installation, the interior LED lights in our roof conversions are wired to the interior lights and the on/off door switch in your vehicle. There is also an on/off switch in the rear cargo area of our roof conversions, which replace the original interior rear cargo light.

Absolutely, our customisations are what set us apart from our competitors. Some popular options are as follows:
Canvas Colour: You have the choice between a sand-coloured tent with brown trimmings, sand awning and sand organiser, or a grey coloured tent with black trimmings, grey awning and grey organiser. Check out our Instagram to view the variations!
Frame Colour: You can select your frame colour from an extensive powder coating colour chart, or pay an additional fee to colour code the exterior edges of the frame to your vehicle.
Side Awnings: We highly recommend the side awnings if you’re planning to travel in warm climates as it keeps the sun off the side of the tent and, in turn, provides a much cooler experience. It also allows for all three windows to be wide open during torrential rain, which can be especially beneficial in humid conditions.
Mattress Thickness: You have the choice between 50mm, 75mm and 100mm. Please note our mattresses are quite dense and the thicker the mattress, the less room you have inside your roof to store belongings like bedding, clothing, etc. We recommend a mattress thickness of 75mm as this provides ample comfort and allows the roof to close much easier than if you were to go with a mattress thickness of 100mm.
Mattress Cover Colour: You can choose between light grey, sand and charcoal.
Roof Conversion Add-Ons and Vehicle Accessories: We provide a number of other roof conversion add-ons and vehicle accessories listed here.

A custom fitout is heavily dependent on our current workload. Although we love throwing around custom build ideas, it’s incredibly time consuming to devise a functioning set-up tailored to an individual’s demands. Custom builds typically start at approximately $25,000 inc. GST, however we’re working on some modular shelving units and draw systems that will compliment the internal function of a Headspace Camper.
-
We’ll advise what the current lead time is before you place your deposit, but it typically takes four weeks to manufacture each roof conversion as they are built-to-order.
-
All bedding and throws can be left inside when closing your roof conversion, so you’ll never struggle to find a storage space for those items again. You just need to ensure that everything is stored away from the edges of the frame so it closes properly.
-
Servicing your roof conversion isn’t necessary, however some TLC will go a long way. To view our Care Instructions and Warranty Guide, please contact us directly.
